Stevenson Elementary School Visit

March is National Reading Month. Swinton & Stallworth Publishing, LLC., was overjoyed when invited by Stevenson Elementary School’s Principal, Tonya Hickman. At my visit to the school, we handed out signed books of Charlie Appleton: The Rotten Apple to the 1st and 2nd graders of Stevenson. On that day, we enjoyed a morning of conversation, laughs, and storytelling. This day was marked in high spirits. Thank you, Stevenson Elementary School, and a special thank you to my Dad.

de Beaumont Foundation and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grant opportunity

An advocate for health equity, the nonprofit Southeastern Michigan Health Association led a multi-sector partnership for the Modernized Anti-Racist Data Ecosystems (MADE) for Health Justice. Grants are not for the weary, and it was a tireless yet fulfilling experience. I learned a lot directing this video, but mostly, in its process, I found joy in working alongside a selfless team and the Detroiters committed to their community, city, and people.

Black Girl Elevations Workshop

Each year, Black Girl Elevations hosts a workshop to empower and encourage young women. We honor ourselves and one another by listening, communicating, and problem-solving. I started this workshop a year into volunteering with Solid Foundations Tutoring. In this workshop, when we come together, we learn and share new resources and tools to ignite self-validation and self-love.

Joy CDC Farmers Market

In preparation for the Annual Farmer’s Market, Joy Southfield Community Development Corporation hosted a spring cleaning to demonstrate its commitment to removing blight and supporting the Cody Rouge, Warrendale, and surrounding neighborhoods of Detroit’s District 7. In 2021, I was grateful to be a staff member to participate in hosting the 32 organizations and 27 volunteers who contributed to the clean-up.

Swinton Stallworth Publishing, LLC.

Research has shown reading and word meaning develop early readers into mature readers. Short Stories for the Kid is an animated motion book with highlighted sight words. This digital book was my first published work. My mother, Beverly Gale Ellis W. Thompson, inspired the creation and founding of the maiden surnames of my grandmothers, Swinton & Stallworth Publishing, LLC. I encourage you to write the book, read the book, share the book, buy the book, download the book, and instill into our youth that together and with expectation, you will do the unimaginable. Mom, peace in Heaven, and well done.
